Q: Hi Christy, Is active engagement in adult film “sin” according to Jesus, or does it please Him?
A:
That’s such an honest and important question — and I totally get why you’d ask it. That verse used to scare me too. You know, the one where Jesus says, “Depart from me, you worker of iniquity, I never knew you.” I used to think that meant if I messed up, I was done for. But here’s what changed my understanding — He wasn’t talking to people who believed in Him. He was talking to people who trusted in their works instead of His finished work.
Notice what they said: “Lord, we cast out demons, we healed the sick…” They were listing their achievements — not His grace. They were trying to prove their worth through performance instead of relationship. And that’s why Jesus said, “I never knew you.” The issue wasn’t their behavior — it was their belief. They never knew Him personally.
See, once you truly know Jesus — once you believe that He died for all your sins (past, present, and future) — sin no longer defines you. Even if you still fall, stumble, or struggle, your identity isn’t “worker of iniquity.” You’re the righteousness of God in Christ.
That’s the difference: a believer may still sin, but that’s not their identity. Jesus already put sin to death on the cross. What He finished can’t be unfinished by my failures.
So yeah — I may not look like your “typical Christian,” but I know Him. Intimately. Personally. And because I know Him, I’m confident when I say this: He’ll never say “depart from me” to someone He already died to bring close.
